Why Should I Foster?
Melissa’s Second Chances is largely a foster based rescue. That means we rely upon foster homes to help us care for the dogs, cats and small mammals in our program. Foster homes help save thousands of animals’ lives every year through rescues across the Kansas City metro area.
You can make Second Chances happen by fostering!
Fostering is an important step on a pet’s journey to their forever home. A home environment is best for their health and wellbeing. Fostering cats, dogs or small mammals allows them to thrive and really open up in a home environment. For pets who have been waiting longer for adoption, foster caregivers can help reassure adopters that these pets are a good fit for a home and speak to the type of home or family that would be the best match for the pet.
